As the river continues to rise from Sundays rain Fletchers begins to secure boats and dock from the increasing current and driftwood that is making its way through the watershed. By Wednesday afternoon the Potomac will crest around 8ft at Little Falls, well over twice its normal volume. During high water plenty of catfish and perch can be caught from the shoreline using bait. Shad and striped bass fishing will be put on hold until the river clears up.  High water events like this are frustrating while they’re happening but great for prolonging the fishing season.  High, muddy water helps keep the water temperature down as well as sends signals to fish downstream to come upriver and spawn.  The best shad and striped bass fishing of the season is yet to happen.
