Earth Day Adventures: Exploring De Leon Springs Sustainably
Earth Day is a global reminder that our planet needs care and attention every day, not just once a year. Since first celebrated in 1970, Earth Day has evolved into one of the largest environmental movements, mobilizing over 1 billion people annually. Today, the initiative continues the legacy, urging all of us to take meaningful action to fight climate change and reduce pollution for the sake of future generations.
Here at De Leon Springs Adventure Park, we believe in doing our part to help preserve the environment. If you are like us, it matters to you too. Looking to get involved in Earth Day 2025? Whether you’re participating in eco-activities or learning how you can reduce your footprint, there are countless ways for visitors like you to contribute while enjoying the beauty of our park.
Explore De Leon Springs Sustainably
- Pack Eco-Friendly Essentials
When visiting De Leon Springs, come prepared with reusable items. Replace single-use plastics with refillable water bottles, bamboo utensils, and reusable food containers. Not only will this reduce waste in the park, but it will also set an example for others to follow.
- Travel Smarter
Carpool with friends, ride a bike or use electric vehicles to minimize your carbon emissions on the way to the park. De Leon Springs’ lush landscapes are even more enjoyable when you know you’re doing your part to protect them.
- Respect Wildlife and Nature
Stick to marked trails while exploring the park and keep safe distances from wildlife to ensure their habitats remain undisturbed. Remember to carry out all trash and leave no trace behind.
- Support Local Businesses
Grab a meal at the Old Sugar Mill Pancake House, where you can enjoy freshly made, build-your-own pancakes. Supporting local businesses enhances your experience and boosts the local economy by creating a sustainable cycle.
- Choose Low-Impact Activities
Instead of driving for every activity, try exploring the park using eco-conscious methods like walking, biking, or renting a paddleboard or kayak. These are fun alternatives and awesome modes that will reduce your carbon footprint.
How We’re Making an Impact
De Leon Springs is committed to reducing our environmental footprint, and we’re excited to share some of the steps we’re taking to make a difference.
- Eliminating Single-Use Plastics
To combat plastic pollution, we’re transitioning away from single-use plastics. Bottled sodas and water are now available exclusively in aluminum cans or bottles—an eco-friendly option with a much higher recycling rate than plastic. P.S.: Don’t forget to bring your reusable water bottle! We’ve installed two water bottle filling stations in the park, conveniently located by the Visitors Center and the playground. - Community Cleanups
De Leon Springs is proud to be one of nine Volusia County locations hosting the annual St. Johns River Cleanup this April! Seven De Leon Springs employees have volunteered to participate in cleaning Chuck Lennon Park thus far, and we welcome you to join as well. If you’re interested, please inquire here. - Educating Visitors
Each experience within De Leon Springs is designed to help our guests connect with nature and understand the importance of conservation. From our interactive exhibits to guided eco-tours, we strive to empower visitors with the knowledge to make sustainable choices.
Together, We Make a Difference
In summary, Earth Day is about collective action; the small yet impactful steps we take to create a healthier planet. By integrating sustainable habits into your adventures, you become part of the solution to preserve De Leon Springs and its surrounding areas for generations to come.
